‘Crawling’ is the second single released for Linkin Park’s monumental 2000 debut album ‘Hybrid Theory’. With highlights including ‘What I’ve Done’, ‘No More Sorrow’, ‘Bleed It Out’, ‘Given Up’ (huge props to Chester’s vocals on this one), and ‘Leave Out All the Rest’, it’s apparent that Linkin Park have managed to transcend the nu metal genre, and while ‘Minutes to Midnight’ may not be as innovative as their prior efforts, what it lacks in originality it more than compensates for with such well-crafted compositions, confirming that the band were more than a flash-in-the-pan, and are deserving of their spot as one of the biggest bands on the planet.
LINKIN PARK DISCOGRAPHY UNDERGROUND UPDATE
The songs are all fairly short, and with very simple structures and hooks aplenty, they’ve managed to update their sound with ease, and show an organic maturity bought upon by their own life experiences, as opposed to a means for the bands survival. However, one thing remains unchanged, and that’s the group’s knack for writing easily accessible and catchy tunes. Long gone is the spiky dyed hair and teenage angst-ridden lyrics, instead, we have a more melancholic, introspective band, that are looking at bigger, worldly issues than just personal anxiety. It’s evident that the band have matured and grown up over the years too. The heavy use of samples, rapping and metal guitar tones have been replaced by a more traditional, radio-friendly rock, which focuses more on Chester Bennington’s impressive singing, and a more hard rock guitar sound. Which brings us to Linkin Park, arguably “the face” of nu metal.Ģ007 saw the band release their third studio album, ‘Minutes to Midnight’, and sees a huge departure from the sound they were best known for. By 2003, the genre was dead, with many bands either fading into obscurity or changing their sound to maintain relevance. In 2000, nu metal bands were topping the charts and headlining festivals all over the world. "Hunger Strike" ( Temple of the Dog cover) (Live 2008 - Chris Cornell feat.And so it was, that as quickly as the nu metal subgenre rose to prominence (and boy, did it ever?!), so too did it burn out. Mike Shinoda, Joe Hahn, Brad Delson, Chester Bennington, Rob Bourdon "Pretend to Be" (10th track) can be heard on the LP Underground X: Demos album that was originally released on Novemvia Machine Shop and the LP Underground website. "Across the Line " (9th track) can be heard on LP Underground 9.0: Demos. The Temple of the Dog cover of the song " Hunger Strike" performed by Chris Cornell with the band's lead vocalist Chester Bennington, can now be heard on the band's second extended play, Songs from the Underground. "My December (Live 2008) " (7th track) in 2008, which can be heard on Songs from the Underground. Both tracks originally appeared on Songs from the Underground. "Announcement Service Public" (1st track) and "Qwerty" (2nd track) are included in LP Underground 6.0. The song originally appeared on Songs from the Underground. "Sold My Soul to Yo Mama" (4th track) is included in LP Underground 4.0, it contains samples of " Points of Authority" and " Papercut" that originally appeared in their first studio release of the band, Hybrid Theory (2000).
"Dedicated (Demo 1999) (5th track) was included in the EP LP Underground 2.0 and was also included in the EP Songs from the Underground. Both the songs originally released on Novemin Linkin Park's second EP Songs from the Underground. "And One" (3rd track) and "Part of Me" (8th track) are also included in the LP Underground 1.0, the re-issue of the Hybrid Theory EP, which was originally by the former name Hybrid Theory. The track listing contains all the tracks from their retail released compilation Songs from the Underground (2008) in the same order, but also includes the later released "Across the Line" and "Pretend to Be" as bonus tracks. The album features tracks from the previous LP Underground albums by year. The one track is a live cover of the band Temple of the Dog featuring its lead vocalist Chris Cornell. Out of these ten tracks nine are demos or lesser known songs from the band.
